WHY SHOULD I DO A RETREAT

WHY SHOULD I DO A RETREAT

Are you wondering why you should do a therapy retreat? Do you think it looks too much like a holiday? Do you fail to see how it can help you?

All in the Family Counselling and lead therapist, Tammy Fontana, has been doing intensives and retreats with clients who are engaged in individual or couple therapy for over ten years. The purpose of a retreat is to help clients get to experience feelings that they have not been able to accomplish on their own. These feelings include a sense of safety, calm, being around healthy people who have healthy boundaries and the opportunity to focus on themselves.

Another aspect of doing a retreat is that it allows for the therapist to be intimately involved with you on the spot when overwhelming feelings hit. Often, as clients are doing intensives and retreats, they start to be able to do much deeper work in which the overwhelming feelings, intrusive thoughts or triggers happen at the time. The therapist is there during the emotionally challenging experience and the immediacy allows for deeper insight and correction of unhealthful beliefs and thinking habits. This is a very powerful experience for many clients and often accelerates the therapy progress.

The other aspect of the therapy retreat is that therapist is with the client for several hours and gets to see the client interacting in a number of different situations, so that therapist can do a much deeper analysis and assessment of the client, their beliefs and their thinking. This provides for a much better overview and enhancement of treatment and proper interventions to help the client to become more self-aware and to crack the unhealthful beliefs and thinking patterns. Doing an intensive retreat is often like doing six months of therapy in a much shorter period of time.

Lastly, the therapy retreats help clients explore who they are and what they like in different situations live, not reporting about it to the therapist. Therapy retreats help clients to disconnect from the stress and technology that often distracts them from themselves and the ability to self-reflect. The retreats give clients exposure to nature and a wide variety of activities that can help them learn what they like in order to build a more fulfilling and creative life.

All in the Family Counselling has been designing retreats to compliment the individual and couple therapy for tens years. All in the Family Counselling has been providing therapy in Southeast Asia and Singapore for just under two decades.
