Foster Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families

Foster Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families

Many individuals grow up in high functioning dysfunctional families. Their families may be educated, wealthy but have many mental health issues that resulted in the parents not being able to give the child the boundaries and mental health education they needed. The parents themselves may struggled with anxiety, depression, alcohol or some other compulsive behaviour. They may have grown up in a family where the parents did not like each other and witnessed verbal, emotional and or physical abuse.

Growing up in an unstable home has impacts on the child that cross over into adulthood. Clinically this is referred to as emotional neglect and has long lasting effects on a person into their adulthood and relationships and their way of parenting.

Often people come into therapy with the following issues:

  • Lack of confidence
  • Social anxiety, withdrawal or isolation
  • Emotional instability
  • In ability to regulate emotions
  • Challenges in making and maintaining relationship, friendships or romantic partnerships
  • Age-inappropriate behaviors such as impulsivity, compulsive behaviors, poor or recklass management of money, taking risks, engaging in infidelity or other harmful social behaviors
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

Our Foster retreats are designed to immerse individuals or couples into a healthy family system where they will live with a healthy couple. Our therapist will be providing daily intensive interventions and therapy to help individuals learn about their beliefs, thoughts and patterns of behaviors. The intensive foster therapy is like doing 6 months of therapy in 7 days. It is a part of the overall treatment for an individual.
