Procrastination education
Are you somebody who is constantly plagued by procrastination? Do you find it very difficult to complete work projects or assignments? Are you constantly plagued by an unreasonable feeling of inadequacy, incompetency and fear? Do you feel like an imposter? Does your procrastination lead you to binge eating? Are you overcome sometimes where you have to disengage? Does creating a crisis in which you have to, at the last minute, produce work that is substandard because of your procrastination? Have you tried countless time management and organizational skills with no success?
Procrastination is not a time management problem. It is an anxiety problem. People suffering from crippling procrastination often have extremely low self-worth and self-value. They are constantly downing their value. People who have procrastination issues often lack an internal mechanism to evaluate their success.
Thus, they are constantly dependent on other people’s approval and validation of who they are and what they can do. Therefore, in a work environment, when they are having to produce work, proposals, presentations, the procrastination is really about low self-worth. The person suffering from procrastination is viewing the task to be about them, not their work. They are viewing that they will be up for evaluation and determined whether or not they are worthy, not their work.
Thus, procrastination is a way of avoiding this, what feels like, a sentencing of who they are. And people don’t want to realise that other people think they are bad, so they procrastinate to delay this experience and/or feeling.
Procrastination can be addressed through therapy. Procrastination is not a time management problem, it is an anxiety problem and an identity problem.
